It's true what they say, "You don't miss it until it's gone." As parents, one very mundane privilege that we miss is getting to go on with life at a regular volume, without thought of waking the beast. Anyone with napping children can appreciate the loss of the ability to cook, clean or otherwise complete any necessary task during the daily nap(s). The irony is that nap time is really the only time that a toddler's parent can get any of those things done without someone constantly wanting to help or needing something so desperately that it can't wait for the laundry to be moved.
So, if you are at home right now, without a napping child - let it rip. Just sneeze loudly, yell to someone in the other room, drop a fork, anything noisy. . . for me.
You have got to invest in a sound machine. Simply turning on the white noise blocks out anything going on in our house. I don't have to worry about the phone ringing, the doorbell, or any other household noise. He sleeps through them all! Amazon has one for $20!
ReplyDeleteoh yes, I remember that too. but, the 2nd child sleeps through anything--at least mine was that way.....
ReplyDeleteWe've had a sound machine since around six months. Along with the weather-proofing around her doors. Still, when she's been sick, she just looks for any reason to let loose.
